Neil has worked with wood since the age of 15. The first twelve years were spent making chairs and tables with Modern Chair Company. This involved a five year apprenticeship learning all aspects of machining mainly reproduction antique chairs and lounge suites.

Always interested in carving Neil went to work with an Auckland woodcarver in 1972 and by 1974 had started his own carving business working from his home in Titirangi, Auckland. His early work was mainly components for reproduction period furniture supplied from a variety of Auckland cabinetmakers.

In the early 1980's, with the demise of the period furniture industry in New Zealand (as a result of cheap imports) Neil diversified his work to include all aspects of carving including restoration work on historic buildings throughout Auckland, and doors, signs, trophies, 21st keys etc.

Almost 40 years later Neil is still producing a wide range of wood carvings and still gives each piece his undivided attention.

He has also made a range of specialized pieces for film sets such as The Chronicles of Narnia, The Seekers and Spartacus.
